ALLEGRA KRIEGER CAME

Allegra Krieger's 'Came' is a feverish dance towards euphoria. The new track follows 'Never Arriving' and 'Into Eternity' as the third single from her upcoming album Art of the Unseen Infinity Machine. 'Came' delivers the energy of wandering through late night quiet city streets with no destination in mind. Krieger narrates in a way that makes it seem as though she is observing herself from the outside, but every line is imbued with fervid emotion. There's a frank aimlessness illustrated as the track begins. 'Waiting on some consolation / For the unraveling sense that you're going nowhere,' Krieger sings, as subdued guitar melodies saunter around her words. Tiptoeing through a sense of dissociation, the track gradually develops with greater conviction as Krieger confronts a yearning for connection. With a Cohen-like sensuality, she searches for the solution in self-gratification. The lines stumble into one another with intermittent gasps, while the guitars gain more buzz leading up to the climatic final verse: 'Well now you're a star or a God or a flame / Fuck where you're going / Forget where you / Came'. The last word comes out in a climbing wail, an unrestrained release of resentment towards the detachment. 'Came' is another transfixing track from the singer-songwriter and the most singular of the new record thus far, underlining the profundity of Krieger's work. Art of the Unseen Infinity Machine is due on 13th September via Double Double Whammy, and it's shaping up to be a promising collection. -Kayla Sandiford
